How To Split Data In To Multiple Columns in Excel

We have an employee name here and we want to sort this data by the last name of the employee. But their first and last name are in the same column. How can we separate it and sort the data by only the last name?

We have here a feature called text to columns. first, let’s insert one more column here. Now select the column and go to data and click Text to columns feature.

Here we have a wizard to do the job. the default choice is delimited, characters such as commas or tabs separate each field or Fixed width. For our case let’s use the delimited option and click next.

Now a list of option for the delimiters, Semicolon, comma, space and others. for our case the names are separated by space. So select space and look here the effect.

We can finish the wizard now. We have separated the first and last names in two columns. Go ahead and call this last name and start sorting the data by the last name
